No. Once again, you are looking at horsepower numbers instead of overall performance. The Regal GS and Malibu LTZ have the same engine with a different tuning map. The GS has significantly better handling and drivability characteristics. That is the point of the vehicle. One is a family sedan. One is a sports sedan.
The point is.. a Buick customer is not going to walk into Chevy and cross-shop the Malibu and the GS.
IIRC, the engine is newer and better. Torque should be the same.
I know the Regal has better gearing which makes a huge difference in how fun the car is to drive and a better suspension, but like the Malibu, that back seat is small, so anyone with a Family will just pass.
I just dont think this is a $35K car or a sports sedan. The Malibu LTZ is overpriced too, as you would be insane to pay $30-35K for a LTZ that will be worth 20K 1 year later. Top out the Regal GS at 30K and the Malibu at 27K and they may make more sense.
RE: the current Regal GS - it was more compelling before they detuned the engine. I think when it debuted, it produced between 275 and 295 hp, but now it's no more powerful than the regular Regal Turbo (255 hp).
Agreed. The HO engine got dropped. However, now you can get it in AWD (auto only) and still manual FWD.
Regardless the model is struggling to get a strong following. I seriously doubt they will go a GN or GNX.
It's really a global GM parts-bin-special. The only reason Buick is still alive is China. These types of cars are big there.
Regal is a useless car. A Honda Accord is better and costs 2/3 as much. GS is a little quicker, but a V6 Accord can take it.
I sat in one of these at a GMC/Buick dealer once. Not impressed. Felt cheap and thin to me, like a tin can.
Yeah, but 2 years old it's a deal. Same price as an Accord, Camry, or Fusion. And at this price point, none of the latter have 260 hp or leather seats.
The issue is that the Regal is somewhat hard to find compared to the mass market models.
I can't stand Buick drivers, worst on the road. Old people that couldn't buy a Cadillac and should have had their driver's license shredded. I hope they go away. Yes, I'm a hater! lol
That being said, Buicks are just other GM cars re-branded. Good riddance.
You'll be old someday, if you don't kill yourself in a car accident first.
This is one of the reasons I buy Buick's. Think about it... One owner, typically older middle class, unlikely it was abused, likely it was maintained well, dirt cheap.
