Yeah giving it away might be best. If I were to sell it to a friend/relatives (even if cheap) and something happened to break in the near future then that could be an awkward situation. And selling it on Craigslist would be a PITA
PBS, picks up cars and you have given to a great cause, Goodwill, and others. Or, you could plant flowers in the car, next spring..........sounds like you are pretty attached to the car.
Some vocational high school or college may take the car for the students to work on.............let it go. Or, as some have said, not to family or friends, but sell it for a few bucks and have dinner.
Good luck.....I have a car that needs to go soon, know the feeling!!! What model car is it??? Lasted a long time!! Let us know your decision.
It depends on what make/model it is. I am in the market for a truck at the moment and I am shocked to see Tundra's with 220K miles still going for $8K plus. Especially when they are among many Tundra listings with 270K miles and a blown head.
It runs okay but has several cosmetic issues (windshield cracked, issue with CD player ejecting CD's, and a few dash lights randomly turn on at times for no reason). Its blue book trade in value is approx $450. One dealer offered me $500 (but they didn't really look at it), another offered $200 (they did look at it). Realistically I probably won't get over $300 or $400 for it. Hate to unload a car that still runs for only a few hundred but have gotten my money's worth out of it. I have thought about selling to a relative (younger cousin who is starting to drive or uncle that does car work on the side) but then wonder if there wouldn't be problems if I were to sell them the car and something broke. There is the option to keep it and use it as a backup since it does run okay (for now anyway). What would you do?
You don't want to keep it because of the cost of liability insurance, registration, inspections, repairs. Sell it for junk, or for a few bucks to a guy who will work on it for himself.

I'm curious what make is this car? If someone else asked, sorry. I didn't read all the posts.
you should go back to the dealer that gave you 500 for it. I traded my truck in and it has 165000 and I only got 500.
the only other way is private party sell depending on how desirable the truck is.
