Well this was a experience being trapped in my damaged car post accident and having to breath a sus-tained plum of sodium azide a very toxic chemical . The person that hit me opened the driver side door that had jammed. The experience raises three questions is my car totaled via replacement costs bags blew through seats and headliner) 50 K miles? Six people have died from schapnel from key manufacturer (11 car manufacturers) of air bags and what airbags would be replaced? My steering wheel bag failed to deploy and is a recall by GMC! I'm screwed!????
It sounds like you're really asking multiple questions. If this is the case I recommend that you use a more encompassing thread title the next time you create one.

This sounds like several important and interesting topics, but if you want others to read and respond, you will get more by typing in full sentences, clearly making your point and questions.

You better hope so. I would not want a car that got hit hard enough to make the door jam.

1. Did you check the VIN to see if it even has Tanaka airbags?
2. You should hope they total this car. Then you won't have to worry any of that.
My accident months ago apparently chemically burned my lungs and esophagus. I have a chronic cough and severe esophageal pain presenting as a heart attack . My hospital bills are over 30k and yet to be billed for EMS. Sodium Azide is nearly as t oxic as cyanide!!!
That's why one should always wear their seatbelt. Airbags, if they deploy, help only with the initial impact. But many accidents are not a single hit. The initial impact can throw the vehicle into the path of another vehicle after the airbags have deployed.
As for the powder, any airborne light powder is an irritant. This light powder is to prevent the bags from ripping your face open. How much of an irritant depends on the person and amount of powder in the air.
Wish vehicles could offer a manual airbag off switch to give the driver the option of no airbag.
You didn't inhale straight sodium azide. When an airbag goes off, the sodium azide breaks down into nitrogen gas ( which inflates the air bag ) and sodium.
