I hope they don't plan to put that dreadful 2.0T into it.
Their 2.0T is pretty strong. It sounds like you've had issues with yours but it did well in my Genesis Coupe and I've seen a good number of 450hp+ 2.0T builds in the Genesis Coupe, Sonata and Santa Fe enthusiast scenes. I don't think its refined enough to fit into a luxury lineup (this is really true of most 4 cylinder engines) but we know even the luxury makes are downsizing these days and they can always work on refinement.

May be strong but not durable IMO... spun bearings, oil consumption, wristpin issues, sparkplugs breaking and falling into the cylinders, bad coils, etc...
They'd be better off enlarging the 1.6 Gamma since it seems less problematic.

Interesting, I didn't realize there were so many issues with the 2.0T. My main exposure to it was with my Genesis Coupe and I'm still fairly active in that community. I don't hear of many issues there but maybe there is some significant difference with the Sonata variant?
