It looks like transit bus manufacturer New Flyer Industries will be acquiring motorcoach manufacturer Motor Coach Industries (MCI) for $455M, subject to regulatory approval: http://www.newflyer.com/index/cms-fi...cquisition.pdf
New Flyer is on an acquisition roll. First, they bought the parts business of Orion Bus Industries, which was shuttered by its parent company Daimler AG. Later, they bought out all of North American Bus Industries (NABI), a struggling competitor. Now, it looks like New Flyer will be going into the motorcoach business with its buyout of MCI.
I wonder if New Flyer will buy out a school bus manufacturer next. I don't think Blue Bird is willing to sell, so that leaves either Thomas or IC Bus. It would be interesting to see a New Flyer buyout of Thomas.

Didn't MCI also build some of the Greyhound long haul buses seen on American highways and interstates? Maybe they still do build a few. My only real experience with 'transit buses' is riding the Disney World Transport low floor Gillig brand buses from Disney World hotels to EPCOT and the other parks. The newer ones are nice. Wonder if Gillig would ever sell to New Flyer? I've seen New Flyer low floor buses while mildly 'bus-fan'ing online and the New Flyers look like really nice buses. I'm not sure if Thomas Built school bus co. would sell. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Greyhound used to buy from MCI exclusively, but now splits its business between MCI and Prevost.
As for Gillig selling to New Flyer, I find it very unlikely, since it would combine the #1 (New Flyer) and #2 (Gillig) transit bus manufacturers, thus it probably wouldn't pass regulatory approval. In fact, I would find it more likely that Gillig would sell to Volvo Buses (parent company of both Nova Bus and Prevost) should they decide to sell instead of to New Flyer.
