You said it! The 3.0 V6 Vulcan was absolutely bullet proof. Growing up, we had a '91 Aerostar with the Vulcan. Ran 250k miles over 10 years, engine wasn't using a drop of oil when we traded it in. Even let the engine overheat once after blowing a heater hose on the road (the routing of hoses in that particular installation was always causing one of them to rub, wear, and fail).
Also, the old Jeep 4.0 I6 was also mentioned. They don't make much power, and certainly aren't fuel efficient, but they will run forever.
What they lack in horsepower, they make up for in low-end torque. Compared to the Ford 'Cologne' 4.0L V6 from the same era (literally nicknamed "the Boat Anchor V6" by more than a few owners), the Jeep 4.0L was legendary!
By far the most reliable the chevy small block v8. Over 100 million of them were produced for over 50 years. Used in cars, trucks, boats, small planes etc..

One is more likely to find a 1994 Honda Accord still vs. a 1994 Caprice.
Hands down, a Toyota 22RE (2.4L 4 cyl fuel injected) with over 200k miles and still running strong - never a repair. It's been running on synthetic oil since new and I think that's a big factor in its longevity and trouble free performance.
