All this arguing over whether or not cars should drive themselves is fussing over the deck furniture on the Titanic. Cars are idiotic by their very premise and need to be done away with as a practical means of moving people around. The vast majority of the day they sit unused taking up space and are a huge waste of raw materials and human effort.

I personally would love it if trains were the primary means of transport. Sadly americans by and large are short sighted and would rather have a wasteful personal car than invest in public transit.

Lots wrong with trains as the primary means of transport. Cars go direct location to direct location on your schedule, not someone else's, trains go from set location to set location on their own schedule. Cars can carry multiple people for the same cost as a single person, while trains cost more for each person in your group/family. Cars allow you to carry more groceries home at once vs trains. Enough trains to replace cars would take up more real estate than cars and roads.

You could say the same thing about defibrillators, personal tools, your toilet, and the books in a library.

Yes cars might be a waste but not trucks that built america and still continue to do so. I will say there should be a way to eliminate cars that are just transporting one person to a job. Those are what take up a lot of roadway space and parking. If you see a commercial truck on the road 99.9% of the time it's working that can't be said for a car.
