What questions do you have specifically about non-interference engines? To my knowledge, it's not like they have different components than interference engines. It's just a slightly different configuration that prevents the piston from driving into a stuck open valve.

this i exactly right, an engine is an engine, regardless of whether or not it is an interference engine or not.

I'm pretty sure this dude just wants to ask why his non-interference engine just chunked a piston and set of valves after his timing belt broke while reving it to the moon in front of some honeys while showing off his tomato-can exhaust.....eh, just a guess.
My real guess is that it was an interference motor to begin with.

well according to the DM he sent me, he has a 99 camry with the 2.2L engine.
Thanks for your insights. I did check with some mechanics at Toyota dealerships. They confirmed that 99 camry with the 2.2L (5S-FE) is a non-interference engine. I am not able to find a supporting documentation from them.
Will leak down test give false positive when timing belt slips of pulleys on Camry 99 5S-FE engine?
I know 5S-FE does not bent valves when timing disruptions occur and it will keep 1 or 2 valve open when timing disruption happen.
Thanks for sharing.
