Growing up my family always had chevy suburbans. I am currently looking at getting an older one but I am wondering if there are any big differences between GMC and Chevy suburbans. Just because of of my history with chevy suburbans Id rather stick with them but if there are no differences or if the GMC ones are better Id be be able to go with GMC as well.
Pre 1994. Mainly because of research(and a thread on here) it seems that 1994 and before are the best years for reliability for Suburban. Plus I try to stay away from newer model vehicles anyway.
Usually the grille, steering wheel, wheels. Some GMCs came with fender flares and running boards.
The pre 94 had a TBI injection system. Yes more reliable but lower horsepower. I would personally look for a 1995 and up 3/4 ton model with a Vortec 454 4x4
GMC is considered "more upscale" same car. Take away glitter and it is no difference.
What you really want is on the floor mechanical 4WD shifter. THOSE are reliable 4WD systems.
The only real difference is the badge and GMCs usually cost more when new. They're exactly the same under the paint, especially in the years you're looking at.

In 1996 the 454/7.4L got a big power upgrade from 230 hp to 290hp. I have a 1994 and 1996 right now and there is very noticeable difference in power towing, especially uphill. The 95+ have, in my opinion, a better interior than the 94, whoever designed the HVAC controls and radio for that year should have been fired.

Lol. Yeah I had a 92 Chevy service truck with a 454 TBI. then I traded it for a 96 MPFI 454 service truck. Huge power difference. Then I went to diesels in 99 and never looked at a gas engine again.
If you're talking the 89/94 HVAC controls i those were neat as I could control them and still have my hand on the wheel. Not sure if you knew but the heat control if you held the button down for a few seconds it moved from cold to hot without having to be repeatedly pushed. But yeah it wasn't the best design. But hey they just came out of the 80s.
I still have a old 89 Sierra with 390,000 miles on the original TBI 350. Still running great. Those engines may not be power houses, but they do last forever
The 95/00 dash redesign was way better. And you're right the GMC version was usually slightly more costly

I have push button 4wd in my 97 tahoe. It's not a complicated problem to fix on the push button. It's either the actuator or the switch itself.
GMl is more upscale. They're basically the same vehicle.
