I decided this year to go crossover and decided on Volks Tiguan, with visibility being one of the factors.

My Toyota Tacoma has pretty good lines of sight, all-considered. I'm the guy who always...freakin always...buys those little concave mirror stick-ons (L and R) at the Pep Boys an hour after taking delivery of a new or new-to-me vehicle bigger than a sports car.

I do a head-flip when changing lanes, old habit from motorcycling, so I'm seldom surprised. Not-never; everyone gets caught sometimes and merges into someone else (or almost-merges). But the Tacoma is genuinely good "not" having awful blind spots. 108K miles, going well still. It's an Xtra cab, not dual.

FJ Cruiser, same basic size, has unacceptable A-pillar blind spots, in my and many others' opinions. I won't drive one again, despite upsides of the truck for roughhousing and resale value.

Y'aint seen (un-seen?) squat until backing up a Lamborghini Murcielago. Without backup cameras, it's playing bumper cars. I'd not parallel park one under any circumstances.

Sports cars are almost by-definition useless for much else. My 911 GTS has backup camera and sensors, which were "optional" (that's stupid). Visibility is surprisingly good, but the long front end will fool you every time and you'll swipe the curb. Hence the radar sensors, which have saved my bacon numerous times. I mostly back it into spaces these days.

Many vehicles are like this now.

I have sat in at dealerships many new cars/SUV's and rented many at car rental agencies.
All seem to have poor visibility, sloping back roofs, smaller back windows, small hard seats, and huge center consoles.
I haven't found a new car/SUV yet that is comfortable and has good visibility.

I sat in a Porsche Cayenne that has window sticker of $85,000 and the driver and passenger seat was like sitting on a park bench.

Cars used to be comfortable and have good visibility. Not today. With a few exceptions.

Why do all SUV's look the same?

Bring back the Pontiac Aztek !
Bring back the Pacer!

Jeep Wranger, no contest with the short body, near-vertical windshield and other windows, and overall compact size.

I am short AND have a ridiculously short torso-- I have great visibility with Toyota SUVs (Highlander and Sequoia), GM SUVs (Yukon/Tahoe, Yukon XL/Suburban) and my husband's VW Passat.
