Honda is no longer among the best, but still in the top 10.. Toyota makes the most reliable cars in the world. Hyundai/Kia are rising fast. My second choice after Honda would be Subaru. Detroit 3 vehicles are not even worth considering.
We can prognosticate who makes the best based on past results, but won't know for absolute certainty for a few years.
I suspect Toyota, like Honda live on reputation as much as actual results. Owners still swear by them... mostly. I am partial to Subarus for reliability, although Subaru fans tend to not be too pleased with the longevity of the CVT transmission vs their prior planetary gear autos. Detroit 3 vary greatly. Some products are very good, others absolute garbage, from the same brands (particularly FCA brands). I would not rate any of the German companies high, although they do bring other things to the table for the most part.
My personal experience is that you can't beat Toyota. There can always be a lemon from any maker but, if I was in the market for a new car....I would look for a Toyota first. I currently own my third one and am still well pleased.
It all depends how good the driver is. Bad drivers who don't treat the car well such as constantly riding the brakes, hits the side walks and often not changing car fluids timely will have reliability issues with any brands.
I had people with different car makes all make different claims about well known reliable brands. So YMMV.
