Who pays $27k for a Civic hatch that goes for $21k fully loaded?
But anyway. The average age of a car right now is 11.5 years. But lets say keep it for 10 to keep it simple.
Leasing $400/month cars over 10 years assuming 3 turnovers with ~$2k down each time = $54,000
Buying $400/month@60 months car and keeping 10 years = $24,000
No wonder manufacturers push leasing so hard these days!
F that the smart person would buy the 2 year old cpo jag frype v8 for $60k that originally msrpd for $100k+. Jags sink like a rock plus you want the v8 + lsd. Or go 3 year old v8s with 40k miles for $45k.

My youngest girl leases only. She's a single doctor and according to her, if anything goes wrong with the car, it's not her problem. She always gets loaners any time they need to keep the car. Right now she's driving a 2017 Forerunner and per her words, "it's a major POS". She says she can take it back and get another Toyota that isn't a POS, hopefully, and just swap the lease and not cost her any more money. Since I don't lease, I think she's wrong but you never know. The dealership is in control over the lease but since she knows the dealership owners personally, maybe she's right. I would never lease. To me it's money gone with no equity gained.
hmmm, choose between a honda civic or a jaguar F type. its also a choice between leasing or buying. personally i would go for the honda because at the end of the 60 month contract, i would own the car lock stock and barrel, where as i would have to turn the jag back into the dealer.
Or you can purchase a brand new 170hp Honda Civic hatchback for $27K finance for 60 mos with the same payment.
So, which of the above would you prefer? No wonder leasing is so popular these days!
Leasing v. buying has been debated to death on this forum. I personally lease because I like having a new car every three years, I want the latest technology/styling, and I get tired of a car around the three-year mark. The car payment is just part of my annual budget. BUT what I won't do is pay a $1700 (or any) down payment. Not on a lease.
