If you're buying new, go check out the Hyundai Ioniq. More features than a Prius, better mpg, much better warranty (10 year / 100k mile), and roughly the same price. The looks are more "normal" too. It comes in three "flavors" -- a regular hybrid, a plug-in hybrid, or a full EV. I think only the hybrid and EV are on lots now, with the plug-in coming later this year.

As others said, Toyota has just been in the hybrid game the longest. They got immensely popular when fuel prices rose. Los Angeles used to allow them in the HOV lane (I think only the plug in Prius Prime qualifies now), which is why even Hollywood-types were buying them left and right.

Generalize much?? I drive my Prius because it fits me well physically, holds a lot, gets great mileage, is easy to drive and maintain and has a super safety record. Anything else is icing on the cake, and I certainly didn't purchase it to show the world anything!

A sweeping generalization, false as usual. Says a lot about you though. There are definitely eco-chic self righteous Prius owners, hard to ignore, but that's not all owners by any means. Your generalization would be the equivalent of saying all pickup truck owners are ignorant rednecks, obviously not true.

Generalizations are just that. If every statement you made had to be true 100% of the time, you couldn't say anything. There IS something to stereotypes because they are mostly true. And yes, you can make some sweeping generalizations abut truck drivers, which will be mostly true.

My neighbor has a Prius with about 130-140K on it. He was a car guy owning everything from Saab turbos to Escalades but needed a car for a traveling sales rep job. The Prius fills that need perfectly! The best part for him is he really doesn't care about the car, it is just A-B transportation. I suspect his kid will inherit the car shortly and he will probably get another Prius.

If I had to drive one it would be the new Volt or maybe the Lexus 200CT

The car most often traded in for a Volt (and Leaf as well) is a Prius.

Based on what I know, I'd generalize that people from Montgomery County PA are ignorant?
