Our car has a lien on the title. carfax would show it as having the lien.
However, I have the lien release form duly signed and sealed, from the lender, paper clipped to the title. I see no reason to pay to have a new, "clean", title issued, when the existing title with the lien release means the same thing. Oh, sure, it would not cost much, but it is money I do not need to spend.
If I decide to sell the car, and the buyer wants a perfectly "clean" title, I can send it in and the buyer can wait anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks to get a title, then go get it transferred and wait another 2 to 6 weeks; or he can accept it as is and still get the title in 2 to 6 weeks, but it will be in his name.
