I assume you mean new. No budget specified, so I'll assume further $100K.
Poster stated less then $30,000. So that leaves the Porsche out.
As an aside. I have an acquaintance who has had 3 Porsche. Just ordered his 4th. A Panamera. Stickered in at $102,000. AND he never keeps any Porsche over warranty period as he hates the maintenance costs of Porsche.
Before that he had Mercedes sedans. His last one a 500 sedan paid around $80,000+-. Free oil changes for 3 years. After his first "free" oil change I asked how much he paid for the "free" oil change. "Free" he stated. Then I asked how much he paid the dealership at time he left dealership when he left dealership for "free" oil change. Answer: $357.50.
Yes, there are some that do their own "maintenance". God Bless them.
I would consider the Kia Niro or the 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT.
Both hatchbacks.
The Niro gets excellent gas mileage and costs more, similarly equipped.
The Elantra, especially the turbo, is more fun and has better handling.
A VW Golf or GTI base model can be purchased for the same price when they have a sale. The GTI would be a much superior machine, but upkeep after the warranty expired can be costly.
You won't find a new car with maintenance costs lower than a Prius. If you liked it, that's what I'd suggest. I drive one too, and am getting near the point I may trade soon. I've been thinking the Prius Prime (plug-in) might be my next car. I drive a lot, 25-30k miles per year, so operating cost is a major concern for me.
Another I've been considering is the Subaru Forrester -- not nearly as cheap to run, but I would like the extra interior space, the extra ground clearance and the AWD.
I drive a 2017 Ford Explorer but on a recent trip I rented a KIA Soul as a hoot. I liked that little bugger and it cost short money. Great urban run about car.
I'm guessing performance and "fun-to-drive" aren't high on your list of wants if you used to have a Prius. I know this is going to sound like an oddball suggestion, but take a look at the Ford C-Max/C-Max Energi. Reasonably nimble, come with most of the gadgets you want standard (Nav isn't, but you can get it as an option and it's a better nav system than most on the market), CVT transmission, so doesn't suffer from the same shuddering issues as platform mate Focus and, most importantly, can be had DIRT cheap these days.
