In our part of the country, I go to any parking lot and see that 3/4ths to sometimes all vehicles are 4 door Pickups, SUVs, and Crossovers. All 4 wheel drive or AWD. Sedans have been dying here for years. That is a fact, when you get away from the coasts and out into the real America.

And article after article tell us that the Wealthy are moving to pickup trucks.

My wife and I have driven SUVs and Pickups since the 70s. Currently we have a Ford F-150 and a Ford Explorer Limited.

The sedans have been getting smaller for years, and the roofs have lowered. Today I can't even sit up in or drive the typical sedan today, they are so low roofed, and small. Long live the Pickups and SUVs as they now rule the auto world in the USA.

Other than a 1972 Ford Maverick family hand-me-down, any car I've ever purchased from 1981 onwards has had some kind of tailgate or liftgate. I've never understood why anyone would want to own a sedan.

I like sedans specifically because they're smaller (I'm 5'1", so small is okay for me). I like being low to the ground, saving on gas, and not having much exterior surface area/interior space to keep clean.

I love my sedan for the styling, the handling and agility, the comfort for 4-5 adults, and the lockable trunk where things can be stored without being visible. I hope to always have at least one sedan, just like I hope to have at least one convertible.

Back in the 1970s we drove station wagons. In 1990 in Florida we bought our first SUV which was a Chevy Blazer. They told us at the Chevy dealership that they sold 90% two wheel drive. People who towed big boats would buy 4WD to navigate slippery ramps.

We towed a small travel trailer in the western mountains, down into Mexico and up to Nova Scotia. 2WD was fine, I have not driven in snow in 46 years. It is handy to have the carrying ability.

I favor a hatch to a sedan, but that's a little difference. I also favor manual to auto. I am, in fact, within a month of buying a 2018 Mazda 3 hatch to replace my 2001 Jetta.

You will NEVER catch me in a SUV, I hate everything about them. CUV's are nearly as bad, they just Look clunky/awkward. Having just sold a truck, I won't be going back to one of those either.

So, the sedan is dying. I get to be unique. No skin off my back, at least beyond the misery of having to look at those things everywhere.

Reason I own a sedan is because it gets double the mpg my diesel gets, the fuel is .50-80 cents cheaper and the maintenance costs are about 30% of the diesel. And I don’t need a truck to get to work. I see a lot of people driving these massive trucks to work. With one person and a empty bed. Back when 8nneeded a truck I drove mine or a company truck. I have a truck because my sedan can’t tow my 10,000 pound travel trailer.
My diesel used to cost me $7/800 a month in fuel. My Kia costs $250. I’ll keep the money I’m saving in my pocket.

I had a 1996 Grand Am 4 dr and loved using it to take my dogs to the beach. They liked it for hanging their heads out the windows...I hate 2 drs as you have to squeeze into the back and in case of a crash, there's a good chance you'll leave the wreck a cripple if you're in the back.

Decline? Yes. Death? Never.

They get better highway mileage because of aerodynamics, are quieter because the trunk is sealed off from the cabin, and they handle better because of a lower center of gravity. Crossovers and SUVs/CUVs are fine vehicles and very versatile. But the death of the sedan is greatly exaggerated.

S class LS and camrys are still killing it. I thought hipsters catnip is Tesla they seem to be cranking out sedans. Aren’t they going to be killing ICEs?
