Most of those third party extended warranties start arriving to the mailbox as soon as the manufacturer's warranty nears expiration, and if you don't pay close attention the documents they mail to you look quite official or similar to the documents sent to you by the manufacturer. But look closely and you realize that it is not a manufacturer's warranty. It's a scam.
The only extended warranties I would pay for would be from the automobile manufacturer; not even from the local manufacturer's dealers, unless I shop around for the right one first. For example, I purchased an extended warranty for my wife's 2010 RAV4 from a Toyota deer in Kansas (I live in Alaska). I checked with Toyota to make sure that the dealer in canvas was an official Toyota dealer, and then purchased the extended warranty making sure that it covered the RAV4 in the US territories and Canada, and paid around $900.00 for a 5-year, 100,000-mile warranty that covered exactly the same parts as the original Toyota warranty for the RAV4. The local dealers wanted over $2,000 for the same warranty
That said, by wife's RAV4 has not broken down since we purchased it.
The OP would be paying $469.00 a year for three years, for a total of $1,407! Put the money away and you will be covered for the mechanical repairs that may come along every now and then.
