I don’t see how you can possibly drive a manual safely on a highway with tons of traffic (rush hour)

You might not be able to see it, but plenty of others can, and do! Fortunately you can buy an automatic.

If you grow up driving stick shift, you don't even think about it when driving in heavy traffic. As another poster mentioned above, it is like riding a bicycle. Also, if you know how to drive a car or truck with a manual transmission, you just down shift to slow down and use the brake less.

When i went from a manual to an automatic i still kept trying to use my left foot force of habit from using the clutch.

Most new model cars don’t even have a manual tranny as an option anymore. This proves Manuals are unsafe and outdated tech

WHAT outdated because majority of the people can’t drive them or refuse to learn. A manual transmission is the best anti theft device.

Most new model cars in America are A to B transportation. Commuter cars because for the vast majority of Americans, driving is just a chore, not leisure.

Default how / why

Yes, manual shifting can be done... for decades, it was the only choice.
I know how to drive a "stick," if the need should ever arise.

But now that automatic transmissions are available, why do some people still want manual transmissions?

Who knows?

We have electric shavers now, but some guys still shave with blades.

The manual typewriter is said to be making a comeback.

Analog watches still sell.

Perhaps there are even a few people out there who still write with fountain pens.

To each his own.
