Mustangs have never really done much for me. Plus, nicely restored Mustangs, Camaros, and Chargers are a dime a dozen (or so it seems). I'd rather have that '66 Fairlane GT linked below it, or even that '84 Fiero Indy Pace Car.
I like the restored vehicles that are still (reasonably) stock. I watch these Jay Leno's Garage videos and the cars he often shows have a completely different (and not only different maker, but completely different design and materials) - front and rear suspension, brakes, engine, transmission, seats, steering wheel and gauges, wheels and tires, the body sheet metal is heavily modified... I don't understand who wants those cars, they're not nostalgic, they probably cost well over $100K to produce, and they're probably not as reliable, sophisticated and performant as new model factory performance cars that cost less and will be easier to resell.

...true enough if you keep it completely stock. but with a few proper mods here and there, the car will still look factory and will handle and stop well.

The fact is that classic Mustangs, even the original Shelbys, were pretty crappy cars in the frame, suspension and brake areas. Refolded from the Falcon atop basic engineering that was years older - late fifties at best.
But... a couple of subframe connectors, an X-frame, TCS suspension front and rear, four-wheel discs, details like modern shocks and steering boxes... and almost no one will be able to see the difference except the ones who end up way behind you.
Kind of like a slightly dressy SBF under the hood... no one can see the stroker crank, roller tappets, ported heads... or more HP than the biggest big-blocks of the original era (at half the weight...)
What? Oh... yeah. It's pretty much stock.
