Some of those 500s now use an Aisin (Toyota) transmission, so that’ll probably be the most reliable part of the car.

Hyundai Kona and Subaru Crosstrek had much higher owner satisfaction than either of those and are supposed to be more reliable as well.

It's still using the ZF 9-speed. Fiat 500's use Aisin transmissions.
The SILs car had a rather wonky transmission... at first.
IMO, it's one of the reasons they were able to be had for cheap. The early ones did not work right.

It was greatly improved by a couple of software updates.
The ZF transmission has a bad reputation based on those early impressions, but it's a deal opportunity now.
A bunch of Hondas and Acuras are using it.
