Sure, I get that old people, women, handicapped people, etc. can't change their own oil. And going to the dealer is a much better option than Jiffylube.

But like a lot of jobs that normal folks pay a MAN to do, I just find I get better results for less time and money if I do it myself.

I hope to be dead before I'm in such a state that I can't do an oil change.

To get it done at the dealer requires a 25 min drive, and then hanging around the dealer for an hour or so, and then a 25 min ride home. Basically I burn 2 hours of a Sat AM which can usually get busy and turn into 3 hours easily. That 3 hours of free time is a rare commodity for me and i'd rather not waste it at a dealer getting an oil change

Doing it myself is 20 mins in my driveway and I usually mix it in with mowing the lawn or other house work. In other words jack the car up and get the oil draining, and then go mow the lawn for 20 mins or so.

However, working on a car is no big deal for me. I've got an impressive set of tools and a few engine/trans rebuilds on my resume. Oil changes are NBD. When i'm 50-60-70 years old....then I might pay someone...but then I would have a lot more free time than I currently do.
My older brother is a retired master mechanic and has around $75,000 in tools he’s started wrenching in the 60’s and retired in early 2000, he’s got a home garage with a lift and airlines placed all over his garage for his 220v compressor. But he takes his vehicle to the dealer now to get anything done. Being a mechanic for that many years as took it’s toll on him physically. He worked on Semi trucks, imports, and on oil platforms in the gulf.

It's really not far-fetched. It's tampering, and it does occur. If I bring my car in for scheduled service, after seeing my driveway dry, day after day, and "all of a sudden" there are holes punched in my oil / tranny pan with (now) a substantial leak, you bet your I'm going to be calling the local news stations, blowing up social media, and calling an attorney.
