No Subaru dealer in my area had a Forester. We just got an Outback. It's a tad big for me. I'm sticking with my 15 yo Forester. Just had a back up camera installed.
I really like the new car safety features. Like the Outback will stop while backing up if anything is behind you. Its not far from self driving on the highway. A little nosy, though. Told me to keep both hands on the wheel.
In my lifetime, I have bought 3 "new" cars; a 1969 Dodge Coronet R/T, a 1981 AMC Eagle station wagon, and a 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD.
I will never buy another "new" vehicle of any kind!
They are all too expensive these days.
A friend had a 1969 dodge coronet r/t too.... You are lucky to be alive and you know it,,,,,
Any thoughts on the GMC Yukon or Ford Expedition? I have a Toyota Sequoia right now with 174,000 miles on it so I'm thinking of replacing it.
Two weeks ago, we entertained 6 guests at our house for a week. I have no vehicle in my fleet to transport 8 people (my 6 guests and my wife and I). So I rented a Chevy Suburban with an 8-seat configuration from Enterprise. They gave me the 4wd version with about 7k miles on the odometer. The Suburban had a boatload of amenities and was a pleasure to drive.
The Suburban was particularly fun to drive around town because it was totally black with blacked-out windows. When I needed to park it, all bystanders got out of the way. I think they thought I was either Secret Service, carrying a national politician, or hosting a Rockstar. We drove several hundred miles and I only gassed it up once.
My only complaint would be the sloppy suspension. The steering was tight but it drove like a boat. Not a single passenger complained about the ride but I'm used to sports cars and small SUVs. 8-passenger, 18-foot-long full-size SUVs probably need a forgiving suspension.
Would I buy a Chevy Suburban, probably not. But sometimes you just need a big SUV.
The new Edge and Explorer look great. The car rental lots are filled with Edge's and the local cops are sporting their new Explorer's. However as a dyed-in-the-wool GM guy, I just have trouble saying the word Fffffoooord. In fact, my local volunteer work takes me to all the local car clubs. Last year, I had to do a presentation to the local Mustang club. It was tough just walking in the meeting room.
On the other hand, I think the new Mustangs look and sound great. There's something about a Mustang V8 that just sounds right. After the Mustang club meeting, the growl of those Mustangs brought me back to my old 60s/70s car cruise nights. No other car sounds as good as a well-tuned Mustang V8.

No, I know nothing of the kind. It was almost as much fun to drive as the '63 Corvair Spyder I traded in when I bought it. Driving the R/T was a joy. Rock solid at 80 MPH on the freeway. In fact, what with Montana's "Reasonable and Prudent" speed limit, it was rock solid at 110 MPH on I-90 between St. Regis and Missoula! I wish I still had that car.
I really enjoyed running away from Chevy SS 396 cars...

You must have had the R/T 440 six-pack. I don't remember my stock 396 SS Chevelle ever losing to anything.
Sat inside a Subaru Accent, very impressed. It looks like a Forester from the outside. Interior is very different than many other mainstream brand. Sort of an utilitarian / luxury look. I like boxer engines in SUVs because it keeps the center of gravity low. So many SUVs especially from Ford drives like the leaning tower of Pisa on cornering.
