I see from many sources that it's better to have a "factory remanufactured" automatic transmission installed than one rebuilt by a shop. How can you be sure the installer is giving you the real thing?
If it’s a reputable shop those guys will do it right. I’ve had shops do transmissions. They usually add extra clutches and shift kits and upgraded parts. I rarely had transmission failures. Three in my life. TH700R4 that was rebuilt still have it 200,000 miles later, a TH400 on a truck I sold and a 4L80E on a service truck. Sold that a year later but it ran great) Find a reputable shop. Factory remains are great for mechanic shops where they swap parts and you’re on your way. Make sure it’s a remanufactured trans by the manufacturer not a reman house
If they order the tranny from a company that specializes in remanufacturing transmissions, as one would expect, then I'd imagine it would come on a shipping crate, and with paperwork from the remanufacturing facility. You could ask to see the paperwork that came with it - they can scribble out the price that they paid if they want, but that will let you verify where it came from and what you got. I think most of them actually come with a warranty from the remanufacturing facility.
A lot of it depends on who is doing the rebuild and what parts are going into the transmission. If you go to a transmission shop, try to see what's in their dumpster. If there are boxes from parts made in China, you don't want them doing the work. Get out of there. Most will fall into this category. A transmission rebuild kit that cost $89 is not what you want in you car.
Last transmission I had to buy I got through my dealer. It was only $200 more than the cheapest estimate I had to fix my old one, had a much better warranty than anybody else, and I dropped it off the night before and had it back the next day. That was, gosh, close to 20 years ago so it may be different now.
I did have one that was going to need to be replaced on my F350, but it was going to cost well over 4 grand no matter where I got the estimate, so up the road it went.
