Default 2007 Mitsubishi Galant or SUV - opinion?

Looking for a newer used car with low mileage.
Unfortunately DH is saying he needs a 'bigger' car for work. His drive to work in general is short, but sometimes he has to take large mdse offsite. He currently has a 1991 New Yorker.

This being a holiday weekend and EOM - I'm thinking we might be able to find a sweet deal on the gently used SUV's that no one wants these days.

Opinions - Ideas on what to look for and what to avoid??? I need low low price - cannot afford a $20k+ car right now.
I previously had a 2000 Ford Explorer and it totally crapped out at 145k miles so I dont want a Ford.

We are not car people, and pretty clueless about makes and models.
THANKS!!!

With gas prices going up every day, I would like a vehicle with decent gas mileage.

If you need a SUV.
look into a small SUV such as Honda CRV
Toyota RAV4
Subaru Forester
Chevy Equinox
or consider a wagon such
as a Subaru outback.

You might get a good deal with the Chrysler Pacifica model (2005-2007), although the gas mileage is not great.

If you looking into a large to midsize car, I would consider:

Hyundai Sonata (2006 and up)
Toyota Camry (1998 and up)
Chevy Malibu and Impala
Nissan altima (2003 and up)
there are others. You can research them online.
