The issue with hybrids is that you still need all of the regular ICE maintenance (oil, transmission fluid, brakes, brake fluid, engine air filter...).

The second issue, is that aside from strange times like now, when gas is $5/ gallon the premium you pay for a hybrid (assuming no tax breaks, since most are on their way out) isn't worth the savings in gas (mathematically).

Compare a Prius or Prius Prime with a Corolla (or Yaris even). The Prius was $5K to $8K more (I know now is a strange time, with car prices at crazy levels). That takes a significant number of miles to recoup.

The very newest Elantra Hybrid looks great and it comes in under $30k. Crazy high mileage, great features etc. I sat in one recently and it's quite a bit bigger than the old Elantras too.

I’ve certainly did my share of research regarding the reliability of Hybrid vehicles and purchased a Toyota.

Their hybrid system has been around for more than 20 plus years, it’s proven and in fact Toyota has sold its older hybrid technology to several major manufacturers.

Thanks but no need to as that vehicle is not an option.

That's styling is so polarizing and it's nothing more than a can opener. If someone ever gave one to me I would immediately sell it for something else.

The days of hybrid cars looking like hybrid cars are far behind us.

Ford Maverick, if you could find one with the hybrid powerplant. Real world mpg is exceeding ratings - have seen some reports with 40-45mpg over 5000 miles. Plus you get a 4ft truck bed.

Yes, but a newly engineered vehicle that’s really not proven to be reliable yet so I wouldn’t be willing to risk purchasing a first year vehicle but I’m sure many other people would do so without hesitation!

In my defense, beauty was not one of your original posts requirements!
I also mentioned that my wife does not like the Prius.
For those that like toe Ioniq or the Niro, I believe they have Dual Clutch transmissions.
I am already dealing with a Sonata with the Theta II engine that is burning a lot of oil. Hyundai and Kia have come a long way but they are still not as reliable as Toyota. The more complicated the technology gets, the more probability of things breaking.

I believe the Honda Insight is being discontinued and the 2023 Honda Civic will include a hybrid, maybe a hatchback version too (I think it will be in Europe) - to me, compact hatchbacks are pretty appealing, and the latest generation Civic is supposed to be great. For my part, for under $30K, I'd look hard at that in the fall. If it felt too small, I'd also consider the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry hybrids in a lower trim, or even the CRV and RAV4 hybrids if you can stretch the budget to the low 30s. The CUV hybrids will cost more, get lower MPGs and they won't ride and handle quite as nice as the sedans, but they will offer AWD and be better for cargo, dogs.
