My husband is looking for a new car to replace his van. He has it narrowed down to a Toyota Matrix or Pontiac Vibe. We will be using it to drive to North Carolina so it has to be roomy and comfortable. Which one do you like best and why. I would appreciate comments from owners of either vehicle. Thanks.
Six of one, half-dozen of the other -- it's the exact same car. The only difference is one has a Toyota badge on the snout and one has a Pontiac badge on the snout. Though supposedly a "joint" project between Toyota and GM, mechanically speaking it is a Toyota. If it were me, the only considerations would be which is cheaper and which has a better warranty.
You do realize that they are related, right? Just curious if you're asking from a trim perspective, then?
Yes we know they are very alike, but is there something you like about one that makes you want it more than the other. Like maybe one rides smoother, one is less nosily. One has more room. Maybe one breaks down more than the other.
I'm guessing the Vibe will depreciate faster (lower resale) than the Toyota...and yes they are the same car-just rebadged. If they are the same price get the Toyota if you plan on keeping it forever and don't mind telling people you drive a Pontiac then get the Vibe.
These cars are both assembled on the same line with parts from the same place. There is no significant difference between them as was pointed out above. What I would use to determine which one I would purchase would be the price. Since GM sales are down quite a bit, you might do well to go with the Vibe, because GM is offering incentives that Toyota isn't offering. If you can get the Vibe with "GM Employee Pricing," I'm sure it will be a lot cheaper than the Matrix. This incentive is being offered until the end of the month on most '08 and some '09 models. If you can get a low interest rate, too (if you aren't paying cash), then it'll be hard to beat the Vibe on price. If, for some reason, you can't get the incentives, and all other things are equal (price/interest rate), then I'd say get the Matrix, as it will likely hold it's value a little better.
Forget them both and buy the Yaris 4 door.
I did and have no regrets.
