I love the show, but after watching it I would buy every car they review.

They get paid to.

Simple as that. All the auto makers pay.

I have noticed this as well. Some of the critiques are just silly. "Great design, but we wish the cup holder came in a half size larger." Okay, that's a slight exaggeration, but that's the level to which that show has stooped. I think that if they did not like everything, they would get nothing to review.

It's not like a "Top Gear," in which they can pretty much do/say anything and it's accepted. I shudder to think of what could become of the planned American version of TG, though, since it just seems like a bad concept to try to emulate as advertisers will never tolerate what the BBC allows.

"Motorweek" is very formulaic now, with everything being the best ever, and nary a complaint to be found. I don't even bother to find out when it's on, since it's gone the way of other PBS shows like "This Old House." Yet, I will go out of my way to find "Top Gear."

Motorweek is more about showcasing cars than reviewing them - it shows you the car, some features, some basic handling, and the price. Its not a serious car review that looks at cars in depth.

TG USA is on hold at the moment.

I do remember one condition was that presenters would be able to say what they wanted.

Yea! I hope it's indefinite hold. They'd say it for episode 1, and then the auto manufacturers would pull ads and it would be retooled. LOL

If you watch MotorWeek and want to know when a vehicle is deficient,,,

Just wait until the next model update, This is when they tell you that the model you bought based on their recommendation was a worthless piece of gutless metal.

BUT, the new model has corrected ALL these faults, and is the greatest thing ever created by man.

Hey, they've gotta pay the bills, right?

I like the British car magazines. Most of those guys don't hold back when they don't like a car.

X2 for Top Gear (the UK show and magazine)

Honestly though, isn't MotorWeek produced by PBS in Maryland for Maryland Public Television?

I would guess that most any car they review really is capable of doing what it was designed for.

"We've got this new economy car from XYZ and it will get you from point A to point B on a budget."

How many cars out there are total lemons these days? (Answer, very few, and even the worst "brands" have OK backing from the factory, 6/60, 10/100.)

I think the expectations are too high. Everyone wants an under 30K, 6 second 0-60 with 35 MPG combined, room for the dog and kids, and a sexy exterior coupled with leather inside. You can't have it all. So, you compromise, and that's probably why Toyota (I own one, but am not a fanboy) trumped GM in sales last year.

FWIW, the show does call out some models, using the most PC terms possible, if you watch the long-term test updates.
