The E class traditionally is the starting point for most Mercedes shoppers that are loyal to the brand. I’d suggest driving a used e350 or e550 and compare to the new ones. No doubt the new e400 e43 and e63 have nicer interiors but I prefer the old gen from a value perspectives. The e550 turbo V8 is a great combo of power and luxury.

Yes it is... but they discontinued it in 2014 or 2015. I think they felt it was taking sales away from the E63. I love mine.
Does it look more like C-Class now? Do you still like it, or BMW is better?
The E-class is a proper saloon with a full size trunk, the C -class is quite a bit smaller.
BMW's best days are behind them. I was really impressed when they launched the i8... but it's a horrible value, no matter how cool it looks.
They really need to try and recapture their previous reputation of being the sporty luxury brand, but they're getting killed by Audi and Mercedes and I don't think they've got the budget to be able to take either one of them on.

Serious question, what is the financial health of German Big 3? My thought is Audi was and is still lagging behind and BMW and Mercedes doing fine financially.
The current lineup of C and E classes are the first I’ve ever thought I’d consider. With the exception of the i8 and i3, all BMWs look alike and that look is boring.
