New Toyotas have gone down in quality. My gf bought an 09 Wrangler. As is typical with Chrysler products, the interior is nothing great, full of cheap plastic.
Do you really need a crossover or suv? How about a wagon? Volvos are generally pretty solid. You can't really go wrong with Subaru either. The new Ford flex is nice, but big. And if you aren't in a rush, the 2010 Hyundia Sonata should be availbe as a wagon too. The new Hyundias coming out are really impressive.
Acura has a new crossover on the way. It should be announced shortly (within a few months) if you like to be first on the block with something super new. EDIT: Bleh. Now they are calling it a four-dour sports coupe. I can't keep up. I thought they were going after the cross-over market.
Unless you like the extra doo-dads, Toyota and Subaru have models that do what you want, but I'd seriously look at the new Pilot. I know they are a love - hate kind of vehicle, but everyone I've spoken with about them is very happy (and the newer ones aren't so bad on gas for an SUV that big.)
