For the past 3 yrs incl the long hot summers here in so.ca/inland i have been driving my car with my pwr windows up.The treads to both motors are shot.It will cost $400.00 (parts/labor) to fix both windows.I dont use my a/c cause the condensor is going out (its noisy).I use my vents & draw in hot air.Its going to be another hot/dry summer & luckily i have not gotten into a traffic jam yet.Ill drive my 90 Tbird till my tags exp on 8-8-09 & then switch over to my 85 olds delta 88 4 door. All the pwr windows work incl the a/c.I do need to recharge the a/c though but ill wait till summer of 2010.Its suppose to hit the mid 90,s later this week....ugh!
Oh....i wanted to know if anyone else is or was in the same situation im in (pwr windows not going down).
Yes our 94 Crown Vic's windows don't work. We yank down the drivers side and use hands to pull back up. Our AC works perfect though. We well be buying an 08 later this yr with working windows.
This is an excellent example of how technology is not necessarily helpful--in fact, hurtful. Explains our insurance costs--20 years ago, car headlights were universal and cost 5-10 bucks. Now they are vehicle and year specific, and cost hundreds of dollars. All cars used to have manual windows, easily diagnosed and repaired. The only thing that goes wrong is the regulator and that's available from a junkyard for 20 bucks. Progress? At the expense of the consumer.
Very true. New cars are harder and more expensive to repair. Power windows still work on my car, even after the flooding. I wish for a car with manual windows.
Last Winter I put down my driver's window down to pay a toll. It didn't go back up. I didn't think it was the switch because a few years earlier I put one in --$200 for the switch at Honda.
So I knew it must have been a bad motor. Snow storm was approaching in the evening so I had to cover the windows with a garbage bag. Luckily no snow came in overnight, but I had no choice but to get fixed the next day. Costs $200. And the jerks left wholes in my door panel and window switch because they didn't know how to get it off. Last time I went to them.
For years, I avoided power extras because I just viewed them as something else that can break. I have to admit that my last two cars had power features because I do like them. I guess we do tend to buy more gadgets as our income increases. When I didn't have as much expendable money, I didn't want power accessories because I knew I wouldn't be able to repair them.
Most the cars i have owned had pwr windows. This is the 1st car to have not one but both pwr windows to not go down.Im not looking forward to being in my car in 90 plus degree weather. It gets over 100 degrees inside.Ill just suck it up until august.I dont want to fix them cause my car was hit by a careless driver & the at fault ins co totalled it.I just cant justify repairing the car plus paying the ca dmv their ripoff salvage fees plus $90.00 for a brake & lights inspection.

Well with that and your A/C not working you are going to lose a a lot fluids (sweet). It such extreme temperature it really isn't healthy--you could get heat stroke.
I hate the Summer--the car is like a Greenhouse and can up to 120 Degrees inside. I wish you the best. Please don't kill yourself over $400. It's really not worth it.
