I have a Super H w/wide front end that runs and looks as good if not better than when it rolled out of the factory...it's a bear to steer tho'
My old man was a big IH fan and we had several trucks,Scouts and Travelalls while I was growing up and the first vehicle I ever drove was a early 60's Scout when I was around 8-9 yo....he stuck it in low two and first gear and turned me loose and .02 mph
I actually worked for a company for awhile that rented space in the old IH factory in Fort Wayne,IN...I wandered ALL OVER that place.
I also agree with you on the JD thing....IH was kicking their ass bad and the 4010 and 4020 saved their hide.
I bet you STILL ran into something, with the Scout in Low First, didn't you!
My dad still has almost every IH Tractor he ever used. Here's his line-up. You'll recognize most of them: H, 300 Utility, 350, 400, 560 Diesel, 706 LPGas, 806 Diesel, 1206, 1256, 4100, 1468, 1566, 1586, 5088, 5488 MFWD, 7140 MFWD.
Dad is a riot. He's in his mid-70s, still farms over 500 acres & raises cattle. And he fully intends to rebuild every single one of those tractors and get them into parade condition. THAT is the way to grow old!
Regarding John Deere, they had their 2-cylinder Johnny Putt Putts competing with the likes of the 560 Diesel. That was a no-brainer. Then, of course, John Deere got the edge when the came out with the Sound Guard Cab, while IH was still screwing around with the faulty Torque Amplifier.

Maybe
We just sold a 560 diesel the other day....we got it with a stuck motor and intended to "unstick" it,but a guy came along that just had to have it and we both ended up happy.
The parade thing is what this Super H is destined for....it has a 3 point set up and the tin/motor/tranny/electrics/tires are all like brand new and I'm just waiting on decals to come in and I'll shoot her bright red again....with that hard steering wide front end it is not worth two dead flies for raking hay, bush hogging or anything else that I would use it for so it'll probably end up being sold to an old man who pampers the crap out of it and either uses it at the pulls, parades or shows it.
I have had a lot of older JD tractors over time just to resell(folks are GOOFY about those things)...M,MT,B etc etc,but I have NEVER been a JD fan AT ALL....I'm a Ferguson and Massey Ferguson man all the way although I do fool with the occasional 8n Ford and if I get a 9n for nearly free,I'll fool with those a bit too(if someone GIVES you an 9n,they still screwed you.)
I hope your Dad gets to do that...THAT would be a way to live out retirement in style....he could get him an old Binder with a diesel in it,a single axle lowboy and a couple of lawn chairs...pull a couple of those old babys to the shows, sit down in a chair and get into BSing mode with like minded individuals
BTW....what did he drag with that 7140 MFWD? That's a little girls tractor

Well John Deere 4020 was the bomb. They got it right with the Synco Range, handy for loader work, or field work. The Powershift was an excellent transmission. I loved the PS for haying.
Then in 73 with the introduction of the 30 series tractor. The Soundguard cab was nice.
I had an H for a while. Regret selling it. Also have a 1950 L150 set up as a fire truck.
Why did International stop making the light trucks/SUV's?
Who knows, but with the identity crisis IH had back in the 80s, it was probably best they stopped doing a ton of things.
One thing that stuck out to me about the story I read about the company was when asked to describe the company identity in a handful of words, nobody could do so.
I'll settle for a CXT, if it came to it...seats six, dump bed, tows about 20,000 LBs.

You and every other red blooded American redneck....myself included of course.

This red blooded redneck really couldn't get excited about the CTX. I would be be happier with a 4100 or 4300 and a flatbed or hauler bed. Crew cab and 6 speed manual transmission. DT466 engine all the way

Are you talking THIS model of the 4300
OR THIS model of 4300....I'll take the older one and skip the hauler bed
He drug your hillbilly butt all around the back 40, is what he did with it!
I'm not well educated on tractors but that looks like a bad mother......
