I would see the speed bumps in the road with the spaces between each end, with a lot of room on the asphalt.

Whenever I see speed bumps, I slow down and go over them.

Why do I see drivers not slowing down and going over them, but rather drive around them, "dodging" them?

There's no point to it.

My car is pretty low to the ground, its easier on me and the car if I avoid as much of the bump as possible.

You are not paying to repair my suspension, so I'll "dodge" it any time I have opportunity. Even if I can only do one side between the bumps.

Human behavior is not always understandable...

I noticed that those who go around the speed bumps, don't slow down enough to go over them. The reason? Those drivers are in a hurry or don't want to slow down.

There are also people who are worried about the mechanical stress on rims or chassis, or damage caused by speed bumps from bottoming out (front spoiler, belly pan), or low-hanging parts of the engine (oil pan) or exhaust.

No, it's because some of those bumps are too high and do damage the undercarriage of my trailers. Since neither the local or county govts are responsible - if there's room, I'll avoid them. Same as those high rail crossings. When you bottom out on an unmarked crossing, who will you call?

The thing that really pisses me off about speed bumps is you are driving at the posted limit, say 25 MPH in a 25 MHP zone and there is a sign before the speed bump that says, for example, 15MPH. If you actually drive over the speed bump at the posted speed limit you just about take out your suspension. Why have a limit if the bumps are going to force you to drive below the limit? So if I can avoid them and continue to drive at the posted limit, I will.

There are some speed bumps around here that I will slow down and drive over.
Then there are some that are so high that I'm almost afraid to drive over them in my Jeep Wrangler! They are more akin to the "Kelly humps" that they bulldoze in place to block logging roads that they don't want people using. OK, that is an exaggeration, but THOSE I avoid at all costs!

Majority of speed bumps are horrible. It's either very high or too long that can damage suspensions. You have to go over at a certain speeds because going too slow can actually damage the suspension for some cars. I think a proper speed bump should be just the rough ridges on the ground instead of those big bumps.

However whenever I drive my SUV with big tires I don't care I just fly through them and the tire can soak up the bumps.

I drive around them whenever I can and go extra slow over them as my car is low. Anymore I don’t think their purpose is being effective much as most drivers have huge jacked up trucks or SUVs that can easily drive over most of them without slowing hardly at all.
