wanna bet?? To appease the media they sure as heck would!! Imagine what would happen IF Toyota said 'nothing is wrong, its the idiot drivers' You obviously never worked in a large corporate setting have you?? Its called spin control. Done all the time. To save the company..
Well, I currently work at a large one and have worked at another in the past. So, yeah, I'm familiar with spin control.
One could also venture that the "spin" would be that floormats and gas pedals are the issue, when it's really something else.

Audi did this back when their cars were being accused of sudden acceleration. And they were right but suffered severe damage to their reputation and pocket in the mean time.

Yeah I heard this the other day on the news about Audi. It turned out most of the "sudden acceleration" claims were by elderly drivers hitting the wrong pedal.
Same situation here, except we now have drive-by-wire as an escape goat!

exactly.. Toyota is not taking the same route as Audi did
oh yeah. you see companies doing massive and costly recalls when there's actually no problem all the time. it's especially a good idea to admit fault and open yourself up to massive lawsuits, too. you know, as part of the gig of being a major player in the industry.
Mike
no, actually being proactive helps in future lawsuits. If Toyota did NOTHING and just blamed the drivers how do you think it would fare in court vs. Toyota taking 'blame' and spending millions recalling to fix a perceived problem. Think a little..
