I haven't been to Salt Lake City International airport but through pictures it looks real nice. The airport is either the 4th or 5th largest in the U.S. and per passenger count it's in top 25.
The FAA considers these 30 airports to be LARGE because they each carry more than 1% of the nation's air passengers in 2013. Collectively the 30 airports carry 72% of boardings.
Boarding a jet in Pittsburgh is now much more pleasant than boarding a jet in Philadelphia. Pittsburgh used to be the biggest airport in Pennsylvania, but changes in the industry reduced the importance of Pittsburgh, Cleveland , St Louis, and Cincinnati. PIT has a surplus of gates and capacity since it was built for many more passengers. Philadelphia now is overcrowded and struggling to match infrastructure to passenger load.

FAA now ranks LAX #2 (ahead of Chicago). I really think that plans to limit growth at LAX are going to throttle the industry. They should give it up and build a floating runway with a neutrally buoyant tunnel to land the big jets in LAX.
