I flew from Knoxville to Orlando Sanford on allegient anf the check in was disastrously managed. Three planes to Florida leaving within a few minutes. Hundreds of people in one line and the crew would not check in or take bags until plane number one was loaded, then number two...
Yup. Except the fatalities won't be able to claim ignorance to this one in the age of the internet, nor by suggesting the livery was misleading, as was the argument made for the regional industry in the Colgan 3407 crash. This time it's all over your smartphone, home internet and the logo on the tail as you board.
Yeah, I suppose Allegiant does leave a lot to be desired. But let's place this into a little perspective.
When was the last fatal accident involving a commercial airliner on a domestic flight here in the United States?
Colgan? That was what? Seven years ago?
When was the last involving a large jetliner?
Wasn't it that American Airlines A300 that crashed into Brooklyn just after 9/11?
That was what? Fifteen years ago?
What short memories we have. I still remember the 80's and to a lesser extent, throughout the 90's when plane crashes involving jetliners was a monthly (if not weekly) occurrence. And keep in mind that the US air market was about half the size it is now.
And yes. I concur. ValuJet was a hot mess of an airline. What surprised me wasn't that #592 happened. I'm amazed that it took as long as it did. That airline was flying for almost three years and already had a horrible history of mechanical issues, emergency landings, etc.
My thought is you have a choice, so why bother flying Allegiant unless you are really hard up for the cost difference in fare or really need to go direct. They go direct BTV to Sanford which is nice but they are still not worth my trouble.
