Nice enough, the inflight movie was about Henry VIII and Anne (don't quite recall the title), it might have been on "the big screen". A year and a half before, going the other direction, it was on a 707, Charleston, SC to West Germany, and the inflight movie was "The Thief Who Came to Dinner" on pull down screens every few rows of seats.

I don't recall the airlines, though, either way.

Probably "Anne Of A Thousand Days". Film was released in USA late 1969 (December) but was rolled out across the world in early 1970's.

No, it was more serious than that. I recall close ups as people put their heads down on the block including the bloodied one who had been tortured with the knots.

Anyhow, the 747 retiring? Not according to this:

Sorry about that....

Back to the subject at hand.

Yes, IIRC posted previously in this thread (or maybe it was another?) that UPS made a huge recent 747 order.

Think the gist of things is that days of the 747 for passenger airlines is slowly coming to an end; however cargo/freight is another matter.

Definitely the best flying experience I've ever had, and I agree the smoothness of takeoff and landing on the 747 is the best I've experienced. I wanted to fly the Concorde with all the miles I had, but sadly it was grounded right before I had planned a vacation to France.
Yes the upper deck on the 747 was quite nice. Like others have said flying downstairs was pretty much like any other airliner but the upstairs in the 747-200s were the way to go. 8 seats, your own lav and flight attendant. People would wander up to take a peek up there but it was otherwise very quiet and almost like flying in a private jet.

Here is a bad quality vid from my TWA flying days on a 747, SJU to STL:

I have been on a regular 747, business class 747 ("upstairs"), and the new 747-8.

There's something magic about that airplane. I'll miss it.

I flew one from Singapore to Tokyo on NWA. Tokyo to Houston was on 777. Both were business class. One was a rattling, noisy plane the other quiet and tight feeling. Guess which was which.....didn't feel very magical

Never flown on the upper deck on the 747 which would be a nice experience to have before they go out service (but unlikely to happen for me)! Have said/written that I have been on 747s many times. My first time was on a flight between NYC and London when I was a child and it was a new aircraft. It was very exciting for me at the time to have opportunity to fly on the largest aircraft at that time as I had already flown commercially a few times prior.

As far I know they are still being flown on some of routes between NYC and TLV. I think last time I was on a 747 was on that route some years ago.

Last one I rode was a 747-8 last April, on an Air China flight between PEK and SFO. That's a newer version.

UA, BA, and QF still fly them on long hauls but in time they'll be gone too. Right now fuel prices are low so that may keep them going for a while in the short term.

The same happens to me, I've never flown in any queen, Boeing 747, and seems that there are very few right now. I have a question: when I started reading about commercial aviation, I saw that in 70s, 80s, 90s there were lots of airlines in US having Boeing 747: United Airlines, Continental Airlines, Northwest Airlines, TWA, Pan Am, American Airlines, but even since several years ago they were not still as popular. What happened?

I flew on Lufthansa 747-8 between Frankfurt to Delhi about 3 years ago. Lufthansa has many 747-400 and 747-8 still flying with them. I am not sure about the future status of 747-8 program though.
