The next G-7 summit meeting will be held in Quebec at the elegant 1929 resort at Casino de Charlevoix, 183 Rue Richelieu, La Malbaie, QC G5A 1X8, Canada.
There is a private 4500' runway about four miles away, and there is a 9000' runway in Quebec City Airport about 100 miles away.
Of the G-7 countries Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States do they all fly over in large planes, or do they lease a business jet and land on the resort runway?
United Kingdom has no government jets, so presumably they can lease a business jet.
It's a quick trip for President Trump (about 700 miles) so he could easily come up in Gulfstream, but I don't know if he would consider that unworthy of a summit.
It would seem like a gracious thing to do, as Presidential jets tie up public airports. It's a small airport (1.6 MAP), but it is difficult when flights are shut down.
I suppose the other alternative is to fly to Loring Air Force Base in Maine, an take a helicopter the 120 miles to the resort.
considering how many aircraft that fly with the president, chances are they will fly into the longer runway, and use choppers to get closer. and probably use a c130 to fly the necessary vehicles into the closer airport.
"A tiny Massachusetts airport is suing the U.S. Secret Service saying an unauthorized motorcade for President Barack Obama last year caused $676,000 in damage to its one and only airstrip.
That’s because the array of vehicles, including SUVs, fire trucks, armed limousines and police cars, that met the Marine One helicopter when it landed on April 1, 2010, wrecked the 1,682-foot asphalt runway and surrounding turf,
I expect they will fly to the Quebec City airport and then drive or helicopter in to La Malbaie.
Charlevoix Airport (YML), 4 miles from the resort, has a 4,501' runway. It's a fancy resort, and I am sure the runway is suitable for smaller business jets.
Quebec City Airport (YQB) is about 82 miles away with a 9000' runway while Loring AFB (LIZ) in Maine is about 116 miles away with a 12,100 ft Asphalt/Concrete runway. I don't know if that is considered undignified to take a helo over the border, but I understand the DJT did not sleep in the 19th century hotel in Sicily with the other heads of state. Instead he stayed at the US air force based in Sigonella, and they brought him in every day by helicopter.
Of course, the PM of Japan also has a B747, and the French President has a Dassault Falcon 7X which has a MTOW of 70,000 lbs and requires 5,710 ft for takeoff. But the level of security is probably less than for the POTUS.
Trump can decide where he wants to go. The security people will decide how he gets there.
Yes, of course.
But just out of curiosity we observe that the each nation in the G-8 or G-7 holds a summit every 7 or 8 years. There is a natural tendency to want to show off the most fabulous resorts of the country. Italy wants to show off a town built 2500 years ago, but Canada would want to show off it's wilderness resorts. There is a natural tendency to want to get more and more remote and exotic.
The problem is that over the decades the jets get bigger and bigger, the crowds of protesters grows larger, and the support staff becomes massive.
The 2010 summit was able to use the Jack Garland Airport, a general aviation and industrial airport with a 10,000' runway. It was about 90 miles from the resort, but there were good highways and you weren't going through an urban center.
I just now realized that there is a military base, Canadian Forces Base Bagotville (YBG) which is about 100 miles away from Casino de Charlevoix. They have a 10,000' runway and it is possible that they can arrange helicopter rides to the resort instead of automobile convoys.
The more I think about it, the more likely it is that the head of state jets will land at the military base (YBQ) and they will helo 63 miles to the resort mini-airport (YML). The Quebec City airport may simply see more traffic than normal, but it will be reporters and staff. I don't think they want to shut down a relatively small municipal airport.
But the meeting that comes before Canada is on March 23–25, in Lima Peru. The Summit of the Americas usually draws massive violent crowds to protest. I don't imagine they will come anywhere near a public airport.
The next question is that the best hotel in Lima has only two Presidential suites (2500 square feet). There are a 22 Presidents, 12 Prime Ministers and 1 Chancellor who attended the last summit held in Panama City, Panama, on April 10 – 11, 2015.
United States of America President Barack Obama
Brazil President Dilma Rousseff
Mexico President Enrique Peña Nieto
Peru President Ollanta Humala
Argentina President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner

He is not going to go to Loring, it is for all intents and purposes abandoned, with no approaches available.
I would imagine the world leaders will go to YQB and helo directly to the conference
