Small airport, no. A place I would want to divert to, also no.

It's big news when a jumbo drops in.

I was working in Salzburg Austria when Air Force 1 arrived... it was very impressive to say the least and was able to get much closer there than I ever would here...

They also had the Concorde visit...

Runway 9,000 feet...

I think some of the best unscheduled landings happened because of 9/11...

As for delays after the blizzard, it seems that they got it much worse at JFK airport (after it reopened):

Even without the current weather troubles I’ve waited 45+ minutes at times for my luggage. Not the fastest!

I really loved flying... not I avoid at all costs.

I drive to Seattle rather than fly... door to door flying with rental car is a 5 hour proposition... driving is 12.

But driving, I can take what I want and travel on my schedule...

My last flight to Seattle was to repair equipment... I made it through the first security check and there was a problem at the second... I was told the part I had with me to make the repair couldn't go with me... never a problem before.

The great thing about being an employee... I simply said looks like I am not flying today... as the only reason for my trip was to fix a machine... after some discussion and checking my credentials I was allowed to take the electronic component...

Since I was going as an employee... I was not stressed... rules are rules.

Speaking as an OPS agent who got to handle stuff exactly like this, 4 hours working a 380 unexpectedly sounds like a miracle to me. My guess is stairs came from somewhere else, and then dealing with customs is another nightmare. Also most airports don't allow people out on the ramp. Airport fun and games with 400 angry folks who think you want to screw them over and actually have a magic wand providing all the heavy specialized equip you need. Good times.

^^^ You want off a plane quick... use the emergency chute... at least that was the rationale for one passenger... he had a panic attack after hours on the plane... took matters into his own hands... sure there was a price to pay... but being a passenger does not make you a hostage...

We had a friend that drove long haul buses... he had people wanting off the bus in the middle of nowhere... he stopped the bus and let them out...
