So assuming my flight doesn't get cancelled, i'm taking off from LAX to JFK tomorrow morning.
Now, LA right now is experiencing what they're calling it, the biggest storm of the season/ atmospheric river...
Should I anticipate a bad flight? Like extreme turbulence? What about take-off, is it going to feel bad cause of the rain..??

LAX is usually NOT affected much by prevailing winds / weather change (coastal plain, no Mountains nearby, Marine (stable) influence.)
Anybody who was take off/ flown in the rain??
Let me count the times..(thousands? likely)
1) Live in a climate that has 200+ days / yr of rain(for last 35 yrs) and sometimes VERY windy (60 - 80 mph)
2) Fly every week, sometimes many times / week.
3) Fly (budget carriers) in CRAZY tropical rain / Typhoons (based in Asia 1/2 the time)
4) Denver is another home base (~ wind shear capital of USA) for a busy airport.
No problems yet...
Have a nice trip. (I hope you are not on Spirit (They are my least favorite USA Airline, but I hear they are very safe (I don't feel safe, but I am insured (a little bit), but I have also lived beyond my productive age, so no great loss for mankind and BIG gain for me and my DS $$$$).
Please miss the traffic to LAX (probably the risky part of the trip)!
I will be doing LAX tomorrow as well, but have not heard of monsoon issues.
Rain doesn't usually effect commercial flights. High winds, a severe snowstorm (especially if there if there isn't enough de-icing fluid available) or other major weather events might cause flight cancelations.
Rain delays with flights typically aren’t because of the rain itself but because OSHA frowns on sending baggage handlers and other ramp workers out into a thunderstorm where they can be more easily hit by lightning.
So let me tell you, we departed last Thursday morning, with some delay, but with no issues. No turbulence, no weird drafts, nada! Despite taking off when the rain was coming down hardest lol
I got nervous for no reason, honestly.
I flew Virgin America, which i think are pretty good.
I'm not back in LA, the return fly was more bumpier...but still very good.
On a side note, why do airplanes flight slower from East to West? Should flights be shorter this way, since the earth is moving in their direction?
Differences in prevailing winds can create as much as a 200 mph tailwind that speeds up the flight going one direction and a nasty headwind the other way. Air Traffic Control centers work together to create 'lanes' to try to reduce headwind problems on common routes, but there's only so much you can do in many cases.
