A plane that was built 80 years ago Friday will be celebrating its birthday by flying over Des Moines and the public will be allowed on board for a ride.
The Ford Tri-Motor plane flew the first flight for Eastern Airlines and is still flying passengers as it travels across the country, including a visit to Ankeny.

Yeah, but how many of you really want to fly around on an eighty-year-old plane? Unless you have seriously good diagnostic equipment, metal fatigue can be hard to detect--until it's too late.
I rememeber the first triI use to love when the confderate airforce had a air exhabit in a nearby city. Great planes-motor I ever saw . I looked inside and saw the passenger seats and realized now really cramped it was in those days.here are lots of evry well maintained 80 year old plane that fly constantly. They just take maintence and inspection.Compared to modern planes they are very easy to inspect also.m I remmeber when the confederate air force use to out on a air show in a city nearby ;i never missed a show.

That's news? For crying out loud there are hundreds of Stearman Kaydets still flying too -- just saw one a few days ago.
I hope to get to Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome in New York State soon and hope to see an aerobatic show done by a WWI fighter planes. Both English and German, including a Fokker Triplane, will be demonstrated. They also have a Blerio (sp)monoplane. It may be a Type IX.
AFAK there are many Douglass DC-3's earning their keep in commercial service all over the world.
That abu Dahbi airshow sounds way cool.

In a heart beat. Being that close to history physically and emotionally would be awesome. I love going to air museums and looking. I recently got to look inside and touch a B-17 Bomber which was unbelievable.
