Not impressed by Ellicott City/Columbia's ranking in the least. If you look at the list, outside of a smattering of college towns, all of these cities are suburbs 20 minutes to an hour outside of a major city. To those cities on the list I have been to they have very expensive real estate in comparison to other towns and cities they share the respective metropolitan areas with. For the cost of living in many of these suburbs, they better be excellent places to live!

I'm happy about it because it increases the odds that my house will retain its value.

But I wouldn't use it for decision making. I notice that 5 of the top 25 are suburbs of Minneapolis or St. Paul. I wouldn't say they are the most expensive, but they aren't different enough from each other to merit each having a different rating.

i think ellicott city carries that rating...

nothing wrong with columbia. but i wouldn't put it in the top 100, IMHO.
