So I live in Phoenix, AZ right now and am looking to move to the Bangor area in the next year. Actually I have a definite date of February 11th next year if not sooner. I've worked at the same job here for 4 years going on 5. Internet fraud investigation and such. From what I've seen in the bangornews site there are a few jobs that I could fill plus I've had a lot of retail experience so not really worried about that. I'm more interested in how to find or access apartment complexes or landlords in the Bangor or maybe surrounding area like Bucksport or Orono. I can't seem to find any links to check the living in that area. Anyone know? Also does Bangor have cable internet access like roadrunner or is the best I can get there DSL? And in general is it as nice to live there as it seems? I'm mainly choosing that area because I want easy access to Acadia and it's the biggest city nearby. Thanks for the input in advance

I should imagine that you could find work easily once you are here. Just be flexible enough to take a marketing job to hold you over until you land something more in your preferred field.

There are many apartment complexes in the area, just not very many of them with websites.

I have heard 'roadrunner' being advertised here, so it must be available. We are out in the boonies, so I do not know about it inside Bangor's metro-area. We have DSL out here.

I have not been to Acadia yet, though it is not far away. I still enjoy how much wildlife we have right here [moose, deer, beaver, wild turkey, hawks and eagles].

Hey beekeeper, do wolves ever make it down into Maine, or do they all stay up in Canada?

Wolves are around but not common. I have seen them before in northern Maine and I have heard them too at night. Not many of them though.

Thanks forest beekeeper Yeah I figured the job thing I wasn't too worried about they have a few staffing agencies that I could always go with until I found something more in my field. But thanks for confirming that for me So is there anyplace I should look specifically online to find apartments? Or phone #'s of places up there that I could call about apartments?

And how much is your DSL to have installed and monthly rate wise? I could probably go with that but definitely can't go back to dialup with some of things I do online for work purposes and such.

As for Acadia I would think that would be the first place you'd go to but then again not everyone is a crazy hiking nature buff like myself hehe I'm also looking forward to going out to eastport and that region to visit as well. Thanks for the reply though

What are the locals' opinions of the wolves?

My family in Canada loves 'em. But then none of my Canadian relatives are farmers or ranchers. All fisherman, and the wolves don't exactly cause problems with fish.

Still, northern Maine is mostly potato farms, right? I don't recall many National Geographic specials of packs of wolves hunting down packs of wild potatoes. Or is there quite a bit of herding and ranching up north?

Yes.

One neighbor takes two or three coyote each year and he has been given permission to hunt on my land and the other woodlot that I manage.

Being new here, I do not know all of the local politics to this story but, I was told by two neighbors. A few years back there had been a reduction in deer tags given out. Our deer herd grew for a couple years, then one winter they all heard the wolves and in the spring they all herd the pups yelping. They hunted the wolves, and two of the neighbors went together in search of the den, they found two dens with a total of 25 wolf pups. This happened the four years ago. The deer tag number went back up and no more wolves have been seen yet.

Each year since then, he has continued to harvest a few coyotes from the woodlot that I manage, but no further wolves.

Checking with the fish and game website, our township accounts for approximately 50 deer harvested each year [in terms of tags]. Which is not bad for a population of 135.

Your best bet is to call the numbers on signs.

Our phoneline install was $30. Our DSL install was free. Our monthly DSL is $29.95

I bought 42 acres of forest on the Penobscot river, at $900/acre. I have been building a house, by myself. We live in a forest, back in 300' away from the road, and our kayaks are pulled up on the riverbank behind our house.

We see Moose: sometimes daily, right now monthly-ish. We have wild turkey on our place, and crossing the road a lot that we have to slow down to chase them off the road at least once a week. We have beaver on our creek, and the river has great fishing.

You need to go to Acadia to do what?

LOL

Very good points.

I have goats, and a dozen chicken-layers, and our incubator is full with another 40 eggs, we hope to have at least four dozen hens before fall.

If I were to hear wolves, I might be just a little concerned. A mile North of me, is a family with a dozen sheep, they would be concerned about wolves too.

If you google "Maine for rent", several rental websites come up. I would also check craigslist. Good luck!
