Here's a new player worth watching as the season is about to unfold: Joey Loperfido. He's had a sensational spring and is looking to make the club coming out of Florida. It's likely he'll be on the bench, but don't be surprised if he gets some starts in the outfield. He's also swinging a real impressive lefthanded bat.

Well, after a positive conversation with manager Joe Espada, it appears Joey Loperfido will start the season in Sugar Land at AAA. Understandable. The Astros have enough guys to cover the outfield, and Mauricio Dubon can ably cover both the infield and outfield. But Loperfido does have a future in H-Town, so for now, he's got to have frequent at-bats.

Despite a first-pitch strike and the Astros scoring the first four runs, nothing stayed together.
The Astros and Yankees battled at Minute Maid, but the Yankees eventually got the better of Houston in the middle and late innings. The late rally by the Astros was thwarted by a sensational throw from Juan Soto to the plate to get Mauricio Dubon out with two men still on. The Astros lost their subsequent challenge, and the Yankees won, 5-4. Now two straight Opening Day losses for Houston. And Framber Valdez was good early but struggled in the fifth.
Dubon should've been held at third, that single was way too short to score on. Oh well.

Hader was just sensational last night. This will be fun.
Meantime, halfway through Game 2. Houston's up, 1-0.
7-1 loss (to me (not it a team structure sense, but just how I feel because I don't like the Yankees) these losses being to the Yankees rather than another team makes it worse).
I think the likelihood they'll lose this game is almost zero.
Leading Toronto 10-0 in the top of the 8th with 5 HRs, 2 for Tucker, 2 for Diaz, and Pena's first HR since July of 2023.
Blanco is pitching a no hitter with 2 out in the 8th....4 more outs for a no hitter.
ETA: Kiermaier flys out to left. Blanco will take a no hitter into the 9th.
