They're due. They have good young pitching. I say they surprise everyone and win the Central. Phil will play them in the playoffs and beat them enroute to their 3rd pennant!

I have been watching their young prospects bumble around for years. I can't see McCutcheon and that pitching staff they have winning 90 games

I like going out on limbs for predictions as well, but can't say I agree with this one. Even though it's a weak division towards the bottom the Cardinals are still very good and the Cubs, while it is fun to laugh at them, have a decent enough team to make a run.

No they won't, they'll have their 18th consecutive losing season. Plus they'll conduct their usual sell off of any good players come the trade deadline.

Anyone can be a surprise any year. The Pirates, indeed, are due. They've had great potential with their pitching, particularly their starters, and on any other team, they have a chance to be stars. But 90 wins in Pittsburgh? They'll have to get it done on the field in '10, and most prognosticators say that that's just not going to happen. It didn't in '09.

There's no such thing as being "due." If there was, you'd have seen a couple of World Series being won by the Cubs in the last hundred years. The Pirates have to go to the back of the line.

It's possible. If the Rays did it in 2007, don't see why the Pirates can't, especially considering they don't exactly play in a great division. If not, I would be willing to bet McCutcheon is a Yankee/Red Sock/Met by the deadline.

I will take that bet. Name your price. There is next to no chance the Pirates would trade McCutcheon this year. He is under team control for the next 5. No way. Not going to happen.

As far as the Pirates winning 90 games this year. Shouldn't you at least wait to find out who will be on the team to make those kinds of predictions?

I hope you're right about the Pirates. Great city of great people.
