True, but today is June 17th. Nobody cares about 1st place right now. Come late September is when it matters. Meanwhile the Rockies' pitching, while much better than many of us expected it to be, has been exposed as the weak link on this team. Maybe they'll bring in an arm by the deadline.

On the other hand, the bullpen hasn't blown too many games like that. A couple, but that happens in baseball.

And as I keep noting, it's crowded at the top in the NL West. Padres won again last night and improve to 35-34. In fourth place but just 2 out of first. It's a hot summer!

Go Rockies!

I hope the Rox will be able to continue the hot streak-I try to catch a game when I can on TV.

Go Rockies!

We should mention Jhoulys Chacin, 8 2/3 innings, 74 pitches through 8 innings (and only one 3 ball count through 8), 6 H, 3 K, and tons of ground ball outs.

On an even better note, Cole Hamels falls to 2-10.

De La Rosa pitched 7 innings of 1-hit baseball. Awesome stuff.

Belisle comes in to pitch the 8th, promptly issues a single, a walk, a sacrifice to put runners on 2nd and 3rd, then a single to score two runs. Way to go bullpen!

Rox lose 2-0....

sound of man groaning
again

Another extremely frustrating game. Outstanding outing by DLR, only to have it wasted by the bullpen.

And again the bats are nowhere to be found. Rocks have got to be the most inconsistent hitting team in baseball. One night they light it up with 12 runs on 17 hits, the next night the get shutout on 3 hits. what gives?!

I know Troy's bat was red hot before he went down with the rib, but other guys have to step up.

Rox lost again in Toronto, 8-2.

Jeff Francis is digging himself a hole that will be hard to escape; in six innings he gave up 10 hits, 8 runs, and 3 home runs to the AL East basement dwellers.

Rox now 37-35.

I didn't know that the Rockies have never won in Toronto. 0-7. Wow.

Here's to hoping they can at least get one game tonight. still a lot of road games left before they come back home. I'm afraid that they'll let things slip below .500. Why did the baseball gods have to break Tulo's rib?? The injury prone conversations about Troy have already begun, and for good reason. I mean Troy was just trying to make a play, landed awkwardly and got hurt. But he's been hurt 3 years in a row now...

Jeff Francis is out. Won't be in DC tomorrow and will be replaced by Roy Oswalt who'll start against the Nats.

Gads, they got rid of E.Y. Jr for a lack-luster pitcher.

Meanwhile, Toronto swept the Rockies 3 of 3, and the Rox are now 0-9 in Toronto.

Rox are 37-36 at .507 and it's not a good time for them with Tulo out and iffy pitching.
