Two words: Kate Upton

She's taking the fire (and possibly vital fluids) out of that young man.

Further iron clad evidence:
Kate Upton Blamed For Justin Verlander's Decline | Video Library | Detroit Free Press

If it's on the Internet, it's gotta be true. Right?.....Right?

Lincecum must have read that comment. As for Sabathia, if he has the degenerative knee ailment that's been rumored he may soon go limping off into the sunset.

Tigers came to town this past week and Verlander went deep to center during his first at bat. Had to laugh because many gave him fist bumps for making the third out.

Detroit won, and with 20,000 in attendance, half were Tiger fans. If we were in the bleachers, then I would've helped to start a wave.

I'm going to throw out a possibility that surprisingly hasn't been mentioned in the thread yet:

He's 31 and has been in the league 9 years. He's not a kid anymore. This isn't 28 year old Verlander in 2011 winning 24 games. You're a starting pitcher who regularly throws smoke. At a certain point, you're going to start to decline. He's not in his 20s anymore.
