Opening Day. It's a holiday around these parts of the Midwest where a long arduous winter comes to end. It's the official end of winter and start of spring. I wonder if Opening Day has the same luster holiday feel almost like Christmas in other cities. Is Opening Day a big deal in LA with so much other stuff going on, does it have the same feel in Tampa that it does in Boston, Milwaukee and Chicago and Detroit. I haven't worked a Opening Day in 15 years. There is something different about baseball that separates it from football and basketball...it's a companion sport. It's there on your drive home or during your long day at work. It's there when your out in the garage working on the car and when your passing through Georgia listening to a Braves game.
There's something about Baseball's Opening day that just makes me a kid again, if only for a day. Ernie Harwell explains it best in his poem....Baseball.
