A little overdue. I can't tell you how many Sunday afternoon games I'd watch and he'd babble on about how great he thought this team was while completely ignoring the game.
Chip got a bad deal in Atlanta with the networks he worked with. He could still stay in Atlanta with FoxSports regional, but then again, if he gets a better offer and situation elsewhere, he'll probably take it.
Yea but Papa was so much fun to listen to because he could usually blow a .20 by the 7th inning.
Whatever happened to the good old days when the announcers would drink when they'd do the games?
Oh yea! I remember Harry on the air one time was talking about how hot it was getting and he suddenly blurts out, "man, what I would give right now for a cold bottle of Budweiser!"
Then after a few, he would start commenting on hot women in the crowd and Steve Stone often had to chime in with "thats Ms Vokovich, wife of relief pitcher...etc". Im sure Chip will land on his feet.
He's the worst baseball announcer out there. If he was a Johnson or Knutsen or some other name not attached to broadcasting royalty, he'd be an accountant or something. There's a reason he's called "The Master of the Miscue." He plain made stuff up during the playoffs. During Braves games he shouts and hollers at warning track balls when the batting team is down 11 in the 8th.
It's about time. I enjoyed Harry and admired Skip, but unfortunately Chip learned nothing from either. Some of his inane comments during this year's playoffs made me want to scream.
I despised him when he was in the Cubs booth, he brings all the arrogance and none of the substance.
