Gammons Ends Hall of Fame Run with ESPN | ESPN MediaZone (http://www.espnmediazone3.com/us/2009/12/gammons-ends-hall-of-fame-run-with-espn/ - broken link)
seeking new challenges and a less demanding schedule, Peter Gammons will leave ESPN at the end of the week.
You cant do anything but respect the guy. I dont watch ESPN much anymore since MLB Network is way better but he was a bright spot there. I wish him well.
Maybe he will finally give up all pretense and just take a job with the Red Sox. He was awful. No respect for a Boston shill. Maybe ESPN's baseball coverage will be watchable now.
I have always liked Gammons, even if he has lost a step lately, but you can't blame him he was old and in fading health. He has caught a lot of flack from the stathead community as he is old school in his breakdowns, but that never bothered me. He had a wealth of experience and stories and I always liked listening to him talk.
He was very solid and reliable through the years. Always great to listen to about all things baseball. There will be a void at ESPN now that he is elsewhere.
I will echo what others have been saying about MLB Network, when it comes to all the other sports network channel like the NFL network or NBA TV, MLB network has out done them all just like MLB.com has out done NBA.com and especially NFL.com.
He'll be missed on ESPN. You just can't replace a guy like that, and it will never be the same again.

He's from the Boston area, so I think he's a "closet" Red Sox fan.
