Kindly tell me which 2 conferences were in the national championship each of the past 2 seasons.
The outstanding pac12 team(the huskies) got ran over when they met the SEC, too bad too, Jake is darn good.
I never said the Pac-12 is outstanding, just better than the ACC- based on head-to-head record over the last 19 years. I agree Clemson has been great, but when the ACC has played the Pac-12 the last 19 years, they usually win- just responding to your ignorant comment. My comments were based on facts. The Pac-12 is 25-10 the last 19 years- and this includes teams from all over both conferences.
But, if you are a Clemson fan, then you have a strong argument- but, you're not. If you are a Florida State fan, well, you won the Natty, and then got your head kicked in when you played a Pac-12 team, so you can talk some too- but you're not. If you are a fan of any other ACC team though, then kindly step off other school's laps- please do.
Now since this is a basketball thread, the ACC is the best imo.
Oregon's biggest basketball win since 8 teams played in the first ever national championship tournament in 1939.
We weren't even called the Ducks back then that is how long ago it was. We were the Tall Firs and we beat Ohio State 46-33. Our football team has scored more points than that- haha
I think the biggest mistake that people make is overreacting to the conference tournaments. Iowa State is a nice team but what happens if Justin Jackson isn't suspended vs TCU and Kansas advances or maybe if Kansas isn't looking ahead to the more important tournament?
Here's a three year breakdown on the conference tournament champion and how they fared in the NCAA tournament.
Big East Champ 2016- Seton Hall- 6 seed lost RD 64 to 11 seed Gonzaga 2015- Villanova- 1 seed lost in RD 32 to 8 seed NC State 2014- Providence- 11 seed lost RD 64 to 6 seed UNC
Big 12 Champ 2016- Kansas- 1 seed lost Elite 8 to 2 seed Villanova 2015- Iowa St- 3 seed lost RD 64 to 14 seed UAB 2014- Iowa St- 3 seed lost Sweet 16 to 7 seed UConn
Pac 12 Champ 2016- Oregon- 1 seed lost Elite 8 to 2 seed Oklahoma 2015- Arizona- 2 seed lost Elite 8 to 1 seed Wisconsin 2014- UCLA- 4 seed lost sweet 16 to 1 seed Florida
ACC Champ 2016- UNC- 1 seed lost Championship game Villanova 2015- Notre Dame- 3 seed lost Elite 8 1 seed Kentucky 2014- Virginia - 1 seed lost Sweet 16 4 seed Michigan St
Big Ten Champ 2016- Michigan State- 2 seed lost RD 64 15 seed Middle Tennessee St 2015- Wisconsin - 1 seed lost Championship game Duke 2014- Michigan State- 4 seed lost Elite 8 to 7 seed UConn
SEC Champ 2016- Kentucky- 4 seed lost RD 32 5 seed Indiana 2015- Kentucky- 1 seed lost Final Four to Wisconsin 2014- Florida- 1 seed lost Final Four to UConn
In the six power conferences, there are 18 different conference tournament championship scenarios. Here are some interesting statistics:
NONE- Have won the National Championship
8 out of 18 scenarios have failed to go as far as their seeding
14 out of 18 scenarios have equaled or failed to go as far as their seeding
If you count 2014 Florida & 2015 Kentucky failing to make the championship game as #1 overall seed, that's 16 out of 18 seeds that equaled or failed their expectation.
One of the two scenarios in which a tourney champ outperformed their seeding was 2014 #4 seed Michigan State losing to a lower seed #7 Uconn in the Elite 8.
The other of the two scenarios was 3 seed Notre Dame who drew a lower seed #7 Wichita State in the Sweet 16 to advance to the Elite 8.
Here's the lesson. Don't get hung up on this weekend's tournament results. I'm looking at you Iowa State and Michigan.
The conference runner ups might be a better bet. Here are some results in which these runner ups have overperformed. 2016- 2 seed Villanova won National Championship 2015- 11 seed Xavier made it to Sweet 16 2015- 7 seed Michigan State made Final Four 2015- 11 seed Dayton made round 32 2014- 6 seed Baylor made Sweet 16 2014- 7 seed Uconn won National Championship 2014- 8 seed Kentucky made National Championship game
very interesting !
I recall Clark Kellog and Reece Davis talking about the selection/seeding system on Sunday and they stated the committee seemed to look more favorable on regular season conference champs vs tournament conference champs.
Your statistics would show they are wise to do so !
You mention Iowa State.
2001.......working night shift and picking every single opening day upset.
We were on break and fellow bracket players said I was the only one there with a perfect bracket.
Foreman walked in and said the last game's results were just in and #15 seed Hampton just upset #2 seed Iowa State.
I looked at my co-workers and said............" it's all over "
(I had the Cyclones picked to win it all in 2001 )

As they should! Makes way more sense. Guaranteed spot in the NCAA tournament for Conference Tournament champs is all the weight that it needs. Regular season record is and should be far more relevant to seeding.

and which comment would that be, specifically? pretty sure I said pac12 vs acc or SEC , so are we cherry- picking? If so, congrats you got me.
but why stop at 19 years?
